FAQ

What is the best vegetable gardening layout?

It all depends on where you live. For easy harvesting, it is best to plant vegetables in the same area as your home. If you live in rural areas, space your plants to maximize yield.

What vegetables are good to grow together and what are the best?

Tomatoes and peppers can be grown together because they prefer similar soil conditions. Both are great companions as tomatoes require heat to ripen, while peppers need cooler temperatures to achieve their best flavor. To grow them together, you can start seeds indoors around six weeks before planting. After the weather has warmed up, you can transplant the pepper plants and tomatoes outside.

Are pots possible to grow fruit trees?

Yes! Fruit trees can be grown in pots if you're short on space. Make sure your pot is drained to prevent the tree from getting rotted by excess moisture. Also ensure that the pot is large enough to accommodate the root ball. This will protect the tree from being stressed.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. Non-synthetic materials are used in the production of organic fertilizers. Synthetic fertilizers contain chemicals used in industrial processes. Synthetic fertilizers are used widely in agriculture as they supply nutrients quickly and efficiently to plants without the need for laborious preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. They also require large amounts energy and water to make. Runoff from synthetic fertilizers can also pollute groundwater and surface water. This pollution is detrimental to humans and wildlife alike.

There are many kinds of organic fertilizers.

* Manure is created when livestock eat foods containing nitrogen (a nutrient for plants). It's made of bacteria and enzymes which break down the waste to simple compounds that can be taken by plants.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich for nitrogen, carbon, potassium and magnesium. It is porous so it retains moisture well and releases nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion - a liquid product derived from fish oil. It can dissolve oils and fats, similar to soap. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It is a good source of vitamins A, C, iron, and iodine.

* Guano - excrement from seabirds, bats, reptiles, and amphibians. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal is the meat and bones of animals that have been slaughtered. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also contains trace mineral, phosphorus as well as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix well. You can substitute one with another if you don't have access to all three ingredients. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

Apply the fertilizer to the soil by using a shovel and tiller. One quarter cup of the fertilizer should be spread per square foot. You'll need to add fertilizer every two weeks until new growth appears.
